The Horatio Alger Association Announces Acceptance into 2009 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area
Organization Honoring the American Dream through Need-Based Scholarships Eligible for Federal Employee Donations

Washington, D.C. – April 22, 2009 – The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is pleased to announce its inclusion in the 2009 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) for the second consecutive year. The association, one of the largest need-based scholarship programs in the country, is eligible to receive donations from Federal Government employees seeking to donate to qualified and reputable charities. The CFCNCA is the largest and most successful employee workplace giving campaign in the world with more than 48% of all Federal employees in the Washington Metropolitan Area contributing.

“The association is honored to be invited to join the list of deserving charities in this year’s Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capitol Area,” said Terrence J. Giroux, Horatio Alger Association Executive Director. “We received a tremendous amount of support through the campaign last year and hope this year is just as successful. We are grateful for any assistance that is provided to the Association to help further our mission of aiding exceptional young Americans in their educational goals.”

The Horatio Alger Association was selected to the campaign because of its continuing efforts to help students further their education for over six decades. Association Members and donors support young people who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming hardships, showed strength of character, have excelled in academics, held a commitment to pursue a college education and a desire to contribute to society.

The Horatio Alger Association administers scholarships through its three annual programs across the country: the National Scholarship Program and state scholarship programs, and graduate grants. The Horatio Alger Association awards nearly $7 million annually in college scholarships and has given more than $63 million to deserving students since 1984.

Through the CFCNCA, Federal Government employees have the opportunity to donate a portion of their paychecks to various local, national and international charities and foundations. For donation information, please contact the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area at 202-659-2209 or visit http://www.cfcnca.org/.
